Please Do Not Adjust Your Set

You know how sometimes you use a piece of software and you just don’t like the internals of it? Then you switch to something else that is cleaner, and looks bettter? And then it just unexpectedly stops working? That’s why I’m back on WordPress. The missing post I did will be back up later today.

    You almost had me convinced to move over to Habari from Serendipity (just because it’s much more simple - I don’t need everything Serendipity offers). Too bad. A little off-topic, but it looks like the CSS is missing something in your footer.

    You could always use Jonathan Snook’s blog plugin for Cake.

    I’m a big fan of WordPress, but because of your switch, I took a look at Habari. It looked simple, clean and promising. So, what exactly happened?

    @kuba

    As clean as Habari is, it’s still a moving target. I was using the cutting-edge version from SVN (not always wise if you don’t know the overall quality of the code) and this afternoon, the anti-spam plugin I was using in Habari just decided to stop working. Maybe when it hits 1.0 I’ll go back and take a look.

    That was fast. Well, I’m glad your blog is back to being stable.

    Brendon: Snook’s blog plugin I would say is more of a template to start making your own blog. He did a good job with the basics, but if you are looking for a canned solution, that is not the way to go.

    A canned solution with CakePHP is 3/4 of the way there so long as you have some design experience as well. :)

    Sorry you’ve decided to leave Habari so soon. It was the spam plugin that gave you problems? It would be great if you could let us know what happened, so we can fix things that are broken. Oh, and by the way there are also plugins for Akismet, Defensio, and Mollom if the bundled anti-spam plugin isn’t to your liking. Hopefully we can lure you back to Habari soon :)

    @Michael C. Harris

    It was the defensio plugin that caused the headache. All of a sudden it decided to stop working, then it wouldn’t accept the key I had previously created with Defensio. Every time I went to approve messages or go to the overall dashboard, I got an error from the Defensio plugin complaining about bad characters in the XML data. Quite disappointing.

    Perhaps I should wait until Habari gets a little more stable because I can’t really have my web site down like that, especially when people are paying to advertise on it.

    Just to clarify, I assume your web site wasn’t down at all, just your admin area (in fact it would have been just the dashboard). The issue is a bad response from Defensio, not Habari, coupled with the Defensio plugin not properly handling the bad response. We’ll get that fixed ASAP.

    Fixed. Hopefully we can convince you to give it another go sometime :)
